Turtle Inn, A Family Coppola HideawayFrom the international airport, hop on a quick flight with Tropic Air. They fly all over the country of Belize, as well as offering private flights. A friendly driver from Turtle Inn will be waiting for you at the Placencia Airport and will help with luggage. It is a short, three minute drive to the resort. As soon as you arrive, you will be greeted with a yummy rum punch welcome drink. The extremely helpful staff will explain the entire property and amenities to you. I highly recommend taking this time to book a spa appointment, as they book up very quickly. Dinner reservations also need to be made in advance, but this can be done the afternoon before your meal. My ideal day at Turtle Inn starts off with a delicious breakfast delivered to my cabana. I could see the Caribbean Sea from my porch, so I chose to enjoy breakfast with a view. After breakfast, I head to the outdoor shower. I could have spent hours in it. Once fed and rereshed, grab a bike from the front desk and take a quick 10 minute ride (or 20 minute walk) to Placencia Village. Here you can enjoy coffee shops, beach bars, vegan eats, fresh gelato, and shops. Spend the morning here exploring, then grab a late lunch and head back to the resort. Now is the time to grab a Belikin, a Belize national beer, or a fresh Coconut Mojito and head to the beach or pool. There are two pools at the Turtle Inn: a triangular adults only pool with poolside service available via shell phone, and a circular family friendly pool located between the main restaurant and beach bar, only steps for the beach. The beach includes chairs and hammocks for the guests to enjoy. There is also a swimming platform located in the Caribbean Sea which you can swim to and relax on. Other fun options are snorkeling, stand-up paddle boards, and kayaking. After such a long day, I would not judge you for heading back to take another outside shower…I sure took two! Dinner alternates each night at the resort. I recommend spending one night at the traditional Belizean restaurant, Aunite Luba’s Kitchen, located on the Placencia Lagoon. I had the chef fix me up, and the food was seriously amazing! The other night I spent beachside enjoying a seafood barbecue at the Gaugin Grill. It is hard to compare the two restaurants, both being so different, but they both boast equally spectacular experiences. The third option is at the main restaurant, also open for breakfast and dinner, Mare.It is such a tranquil hideaway and makes you feel so remote. You never want to leave! The food, drinks, and service were all perfected by the impeccable staff.
